Flower of the Week: China Asters

Description by Jamie Wickler

China Asters, Callistephus chinensis, native and cultivated in China for over 2,000 years, are also used in traditional Chinese medicine (improve eyesight, anti-inflammatory, detox and much more). These beauties attract bees and long-tongued pollinators (butterflies). There is lore surrounding China Asters all over the world and time: Ancient Greeks believed the flower represented the God Jupiter. In Germany and England they believed them to be magical (I’d have to agree!). In Colorado, we hope to have these beauties blooming into September.
